5th Card Dealt [Action]

[Gambit is back from his mission today, and, much as he hates to admit it, he's exhausted. It's not often that he gets worn out, but this mission definitely managed it. But still, tired as he is, he's got a few things to attend to before he heads back to his apartment. He just means to knock them out as quickly as he can so that he can knock out as quickly as he can.

And so, early afternoon finds him slipping into the Item Shop, careful not to make a sound on the way in, so he can leave a card - a joker, to be specific - on the counter as a sign that he's gotten back safely. His way back out isn't quite as quiet as he'd been hoping, though, and just before the door shuts, the bell goes off. Merde. So much for that.

Once that's done, it's off to the grocery store. Food. Food is definitely needed before he sleeps. Too hungry not to eat.

After nearly ten minutes of staring blankly at spices - he suspects he may have fallen asleep on his feet - Gambit shakes his head and decides to just grab a can of soup and some instant cornbread. Nevermind cooking. Easy stuff. Quick.

He hates cooking this kind of stuff, but pride be damned, he's too tired.

Eventually, he finds his way through the town and back to CH1 to make aforementioned soup and lurch his way into his apartment to sleep, but it's very slow going. Feel free to run into him anywhere on his journey~]

Worse. [She confirms all-too cheerfully. And then a light - but friendly - smirk.] Ya want me ta find you some ramen? Just add hot water.

[He knows it's a joke, but that. Just. No.]

I'm tired, I ain't got dead taste buds.

[touchofrogue]

[Snerk.] Suit yourself.

[And then, in complete disregard for what she just said, she puts the soup can back on the shelf.]

C'mon, Cajun.

[And starts turning to head up the aisle.]

[His eyes go from Rogue to the soup can back to Rogue. And he pauses. Trust and follow her or grab that soup just in case she's leading the way to the ramen?

...He'll just give her hell if she leads him to the ramen.

Shaking his head, inwardly wondering what he's getting himself into, he starts to follow after her.]

This ain't the way to the pet food, is it? 'Cause I don't t'ink I'm goin' any further if it is.

[touchofrogue]

[Snort.] Well, shoot, if you're that tired out ya can always hole up in a corner. 'course if ya pass out on the floor, I don't promise not ta point an' laugh.

[Hmm. She'll just grab some of this. And some of that. The X-House is too far away for him to walk, and Scott will have a conniption...]

[How did he get through a week without someone snarking at him like this? Weird, the things you end up missing. He chuckles despite himself.]

Hate to ruin your fun, chere, but I got enough energy to at least get home first.

[Just what is she gathering up stuff for, anyway? He watches the accrued items from the corner of his eye, curiously trying to decipher what she's thinking up.]

Promises, promises...

[Soup? Soup's fine. Just not that soup. Celery. Peppers. Carrots. Canned tomatoes. Onion. Apples. Currents. Ground beef.]

I'll believe it when I see it.

[kineticcajun]

[Okay, that's definitely starting to come together now. Girl, you better not be yanking his chain with all of this food. Because he's not sure he can take it right now. He'll do a test poke here...]

You always takin' off of work for grocery runs like this? Or is this a special occasion?

[touchofrogue]

[She slants a look back at him.]

You gonna make me regret this 'fore I even start?

[Curry. Curry sauce. Yes. That should do. Oh, rice. And peanuts. Score.]

It ain't too late for me ta leave ya with Campbell's.

[Thought so. He would probably fight against this more, were it not for the fact that he knows damn well Rogue wouldn't even offer under normal circumstances. And he also knows damn well that she's a good cook. He's not going to look the gift horse in the mouth.]

You ain't that cruel.

[Not bothering to hide his smile, he nods towards her various ingredients.]

At least let me carry all that for you.

[You're already being too nice to him just offering to make something. He has to even the score at least a little bit.]

An' miss lordin' it over you for the rest of whenever? Nah, I don't think so.

[Because she's still mad at you, you see. She's just putting off yelling at you until you're back on your feet.

Serve him right if she leaves out the pepper.]

[He's not sure if that vaguely worries him or if it's just funny.]

Got your priorities, don't you?

[Has she mentioned you look like you're about to fall over. As she pauses and eyes him, the thought occurs again.]

You outta be glad for that. I coulda left you with the soup.

[But, done now, she turns to him expectantly.] Believe it or not, I don't know where you live. We ain't all in the habit of stalkin'. Where's closer?

[Your place or mine.

Ha, what a joke.]

[He'll just ignore that jab at his information gathering and pause thoughtfully.]

Outta my place or yours? Yours.

[Although he is immediately wondering if One Eye is there. It's not much deterrent, though, because anything to get on Scott's nerves is fine by him.

He slips his hands into his pockets and decides he'll even the field his own way. His tone is totally nonchalant.]

An' it's Community Buildin' 1. Firs' floor.

[She sighs at that an considers taking him to Mello's old place instead, but...

She can just hear the jokes about that already.

...oh well, might as well get an early start on dinner.]

C'mon, then.

[She's not sure how to deal with that freely offered information so she'll just. Ignore it.]

[He nods. She's got his curiosity, alright. And while he's sure he's going to owe her for this several times over, he figures it'll be worth it.]

[Totally playing the gentleman. Not just tired and lagging a bit. Nope. You're imagining it.]

[She leads the way but will want to slip into the Item Shop to pick up her docking station. She'd hate for any misunderstandings to occur which would involve her hunting down and retrieving it.]

So when'dya get back?

[He follows along, actually behaving himself for a change.]

Jus' now. Figured I had a few t'ings to tend to 'fore I headed back home, though.

[And first on the list was letting her know he was alive. The food idea took second place. He can get priorities right sometimes.]

[Her brain sort of. Stutters on that.

Get his priorities right, indeed.]

Guess you didn't get caught, then.

[He shakes his head, offering a small smile. Hopefully it'll be some reassurance that everything is fine, even if he's tired.]

Non. I was teamed up wit' a ninja. Wasn't too bad. Worst of it was the jungle itself.

[How is it it's always plants kicking his butt in this place?]

You were right. That place ain't no picnic.

[touchofrogue]

[A light sigh.] Trust me, if ya didn't have a metric ton of soldiers fall down on ya, what you had wasn't so bad.

[He nods.] Didn't fall on us, but we saw 'em. Lucky it was jus' recon.

[And if that's the sort of security they have when they're not fighting? He definitely understands why Rogue reacted the way she did before he left.]

What'dya find out? [Glance back at him.] Or did they wipe your memories on return or somethin'.

[He sighs.] Honestly, chere? I got no clue what we found out. Whole lotta talkin' in code. Unless they got a Wingnut Dictionary sittin' around, I dunno how much it's gonna help.
