5th Card Dealt [Action]

[Gambit is back from his mission today, and, much as he hates to admit it, he's exhausted. It's not often that he gets worn out, but this mission definitely managed it. But still, tired as he is, he's got a few things to attend to before he heads back to his apartment. He just means to knock them out as quickly as he can so that he can knock out as quickly as he can.

And so, early afternoon finds him slipping into the Item Shop, careful not to make a sound on the way in, so he can leave a card - a joker, to be specific - on the counter as a sign that he's gotten back safely. His way back out isn't quite as quiet as he'd been hoping, though, and just before the door shuts, the bell goes off. Merde. So much for that.

Once that's done, it's off to the grocery store. Food. Food is definitely needed before he sleeps. Too hungry not to eat.

After nearly ten minutes of staring blankly at spices - he suspects he may have fallen asleep on his feet - Gambit shakes his head and decides to just grab a can of soup and some instant cornbread. Nevermind cooking. Easy stuff. Quick.

He hates cooking this kind of stuff, but pride be damned, he's too tired.

Eventually, he finds his way through the town and back to CH1 to make aforementioned soup and lurch his way into his apartment to sleep, but it's very slow going. Feel free to run into him anywhere on his journey~]

[He nods.] Didn't fall on us, but we saw 'em. Lucky it was jus' recon.

[And if that's the sort of security they have when they're not fighting? He definitely understands why Rogue reacted the way she did before he left.]

What'dya find out? [Glance back at him.] Or did they wipe your memories on return or somethin'.

[kineticcajun]

[He sighs.] Honestly, chere? I got no clue what we found out. Whole lotta talkin' in code. Unless they got a Wingnut Dictionary sittin' around, I dunno how much it's gonna help.

[touchofrogue]

Huh. Figures. Think they'll have ya sortin' grain next?

[kineticcajun]

[That'll earn a laugh. More of one than she might expect. The lack of sleep is really setting in.]

Sure hope not. That ain't my area of expertise.

[touchofrogue]

[Yeah, Hercules jokes usually aren't that funny. Sidelong glance.]

So who else was on your team?

[Keep talking, keep walking...]

Luke Skywalker, for one. [Which is still a bit of a surprise to him, for some reason or another. Jedi leader on a mission full of ninjas and a thief. This place.] Sailor Mercury. Couple ninjas - one of 'em a turtle. An' a kid named for a dog.

[He's not sure what's weirder - the fact that he had a mission with this band of misfits or the fact that, if he were to ever describe the group he worked with for Magneto, the description would be even stranger. He grins over at her.]

Y'know. Jus' about who you'd expect the Malnosso to send out for recon.

[touchofrogue]

[Luke Skywalker and ninja turtles. Her childhood. /sob.]

Tell me ya managed ta hold back the Saturday mornin' cartoon cracks.

Somehow. [It didn't hurt that Leonardo ended up being a good partner for the whole thing. He chuckles, shaking his head.]

Musta been everyone bein' so focused. Killed any jokes on the spot.

[touchofrogue]

Mmm. [The thought of him being serious... she'd rather not think too much about what would make that happen.]

We're nearly there. Think you can make it?

[kineticcajun]

[Exhausted as he is, he's got enough energy left to make it back to his place. He thinks. But that doesn't mean he can't mess with her a bit.]

I dunno, chere... If I don't, you're not jus' gonna leave me out here in the snow, are you?

[touchofrogue]

[Snort.]

Ya think I can swing ya over my shoulder an' carry you?

[kineticcajun]

[Rogue, he's quickly learned not to doubt your capabilities. But even so, he's still joking around.]

Well, you can't jus' drag a tired ol' Cajun through the snow.

[touchofrogue]

Not without droppin' the groceries, anyway.

[kineticcajun]

Can't have that. Guess I jus' gotta walk.

[touchofrogue]

Get a move on, then. [She says as they approach their destination.] It's cold.

[kineticcajun]

I'm movin'. Wouldn't dream of keepin' you out in the cold. [Oh man, almost there. He can summon up what's left of his energy to keep up a little better.]

[touchofrogue]

Sure you wouldn't.

[Into the house then. She doesn't offer to help with his coat, she just shrugs off her own and heads into the kitchen.]

[kineticcajun]

[He's honestly fairly tempted to keep the coat on, after how cold it was outside. But he shrugs out of his coat, hanging it on a hook on the wall, and even has the presence of conscience enough to wipe the snow off his boots before following after her. Kitchen snoop.

Besides, he may have been here before, but he's not entirely sure how cool the X-gang would be with him just flopping down on the couch/living room floor/whatever is most readily available. Better to keep stubbornly on.]

Well, chef... Don't s'pose you're gonna need a hand wit' any of this? Or is this goin' on my tab of t'ings you can lord over me later.

[touchofrogue]

[She eyes him.] If I let ya chop, will you chop off your fingers?

[And then she shakes her head back and forth in consideration.] Could be an improvement.

[Lies. She loves his hands. But whatever.]

[kineticcajun]

[Smirk.] An improvement? C'est cruel. These fingers got their merits, y'know.

[So yeah, he can totally chop ingredients.]

[touchofrogue]

[She sets out the ingredients on the counter.] Knives are over there.

[And then she moves to start browning the meat in a large pan.]

[kineticcajun]

You got it, chere.

[He'll just go ahead and get a knife and cutting board and get to work chopping up the vegetables. The motions are slower than usual, but he's still quick and practiced and making short work of everything. Your very own kitchen Cajun.]

[touchofrogue]

[She watches him as she works, wary of him doing something crazy. Like falling down. And she can't help a grudging admiration for the way he's still so damn graceful, even if he's tired.]

When you're done, you should go sit down.

[kineticcajun]

[The chopping slows for a moment as he fights down a yawn. With a shake of his head, though, he's right back up to speed. Almost done.]

You sure?

[He means that on several levels. Sure that she doesn't need any other help making this, sure he's not going to be setting off Scott/Kurt/whoever, sure that she really doesn't mind if he ends up passing out asleep in a chair...]
