7th Card Dealt [Action/Voice]

[Just as the afternoon is winding down today, Gambit is waking up. In the middle of the woods. With the damned journal right next to him. Only as far as he can tell, it's the middle of the night, which is weird, because he can't hear any crickets or anything. But it's pitch dark out, in any case.

Which is also weird, because he should be able to see just fine in the dark, but that's another matter entirely.

He spends a while feeling around in the dark, trying to figure out a sense of direction (moss grows on the north side of trees, right?) before he ultimately figures, screw it, the enclosure is only so big, walking far enough in one direction will eventually lead him somewhere. The sooner he can find his way back to his apartment, the better. Everything hurts, up to and including his pride, but being stuck with nothing but a bunch of lunatic scientists for a couple weeks did little for his comfort levels in this place.

A couple hours and several bumps into trees later, he admits defeat. Whatever direction he's walking in (south...?), he's not getting anywhere except into more tree trunks. He's lost. And the fact that he can't see a damned thing is creeping up into a growing sense of panic. But now isn't the time to freak out. He can ride through this. He's been through worse.

But just this once, he's going to have to eat his big LeBeau Sense of Pride. Out comes the journal.]

Alright, alright. Y'all didn't move the village in the las' couple weeks, did you? Don't seem like it's where I left it.

I wasn't certain you would be returned to the enclosure. Many...many have left, while you were away.

[A frightening amount have. It disturbs her, longstanding members of the community, known and unknown to her leaving or being taken. Better that they return home but. How certain are they that those that leave go home?]

...Merde. The forest. Have you any idea where in the forest? Near the lakes, the river?

Non. I can hear a river, but I'm not sure what way I'm facin'. S'on the left.

[Nope. Not worried about the lack of light. It's just an experiment. The lights are out. There's an easy fix.]

...Who all left?

Ginia. Detective Chun-Li. At least ten others that I have heard of, though I did not know them well. Many others have been taken. It is...worrying.

[Woods. By one of the rivers. That. That does not narrow down the location much at all.]

...do you think. [This is a terrible idea.] That you could send up a flare of some kind, were I to come out and search for you?

[She ought to send Ben. This was a terrible idea. Walking any distance was frowned upon. Hiking in the woods? She'd be strapped to the bed.]

[Chun-Li. Really? How'd he miss that she was here? Probably a good thing they didn't run into one another.

But. Thinking.]

I could try an' find somethin', but wherever this is, the tree cover's too damn thick to let any light through. Not sure I can get somethin' thrown through it, but I can try.

...the trees are as they have always been Rems.

[She'd been willing to call Ben and send the Jedi out after Gambit- until this. Something was off. She shifts, hisses a bit at the discomfort, and sits up.]

What's wrong?

[Nice try, Adele, but that hiss caught his attention.]

Y'know, I could ask you the same t'ing. You hurt?

I will answer if you do.

[You are a stubborn woman, Adele. And that's part of why he likes you, but it's not the best thing right now.

There's some fumbling with the journal before he manages to fumble a filter onto it. Not the best, but then again, he can't tell how strong it is. Muscle memory alone has gotten him this far.]

S'pitch black out here. Can't see a t'ing.

[Stubborn is as stubborn does. And honestly? The fumbled filter, the statement? That has her up and out of bed in a heartbeat. And of course she staggers a bit with a muted swear of pain, but. He's lost in the dark, literally, and she will not leave him alone in that.

Before she replies she bumps the filter up.]

Cut up a bit. I frightened a new feather. They were armed.

[You are not sounding good, Adele. And somehow that's more worrying than the darkness out here.]

Don't folks normally run when you frighten 'em?

He ran into me. Literally.

[Woods by the river. Right. No way of knowing where, exactly and she really, really, really ought to put a bell on Gambit one of these days.]

[A bell would still go silent on him. He'd find a way. Fact.]

[A pained grunt, and she's pulled on her shoes, making her way out the door.]

Then a small knife.

Non. Doc, you ain't t'inkin' of comin' out here. Don't even try it.

[Don't make him start yelling over the journal that you're about to do something stupid. He won't have any shame about it.]

Remy you are lost in the woods and blind. I am not sitting in bed waiting for you to find your way back to the village.

Funny, I was t'inkin' that'd be the best plan. [Yep. Getting snippy. After getting poked at by mad scientists for two weeks, he's a little surprised he isn't snipping more.]

'Sides, you know how many hero-types we got runnin' around this place. Somebody's bound to show up an' point me in the right direction.

...Call someone. Ben, Luke, Red- Lupin, even. Call someone that can bring you back. Promise to do that and I'll stay put.

[Even with Luke's aid the day before- she shouldn't be walking that far. Force Healing couldn't replenish blood lost, saline could only do so much.]

Okay. I will. [Much as he hates the idea. But he'll do whatever it takes to make sure she isn't making herself bleed out somewhere in the woods.]

...But prob'ly ain't gonna be Lupin. That man's jus' as big a fool as I am.

[She lifts her hand from the doorknob at that and makes her way back to her bed. Toes off her shoes, settles back in amongst the pillows with a low rustling. When she speaks next her voice is terribly soft. Exhausted.]

...have them bring you to the battle dome clinic after? I've been worried, Rems.

Non. [Okay, that came out a little more quickly than he intended. And he knows she's probably holed up there too. Company and a reminder that he's alive is all she means.

But he still doesn't want to go into the clinic.]

[LeBeau, since when are you such a chicken.]

...I'll try an' stop in.

[That was unexpected. She almost flinches on her end- yes she knows he has his pride and perhaps she should attempt to worry less but. She can't really help it. Though, apparently, she really should.]

...just. [Her voice isn't falsely pleasant at all. Really. Gambit's just imagining things.] Call me when you are back in the village Gambit.

[That false tone would work better on someone who isn't an empath.]

I will, doc. An' I'll pop in, but I ain't stickin' around for any doctors to poke at me. Jus' visitin' you.

[That sounds way better than "I will punch anyone who tries to take any kind of medical instrument to my head", right.]

[She relaxes a little at that. So it was the clinic, not her, that caused him distress. Entirely understandable, really.]

If any of the doctors here even look like they might be thinking about it? I'll throw something at them.

'preciate it.

[He really does. Because literally going blind into a medical facility? Not high on his list of Things To Do right about now. Somebody watching his back is exactly what he needs.]

Jus' don't go hurtin' yourself to do it.
