[Another wave of New Feathers, some of them familiar faces, has filled Gambit with an overabundance of restless energy... moreso than usual, even. And so, bright and early, he's out at the Battle Dome to blow off steam. It's also a good way to work through any number of restless thoughts he's been stewing over lately. At least, in Gambit Terms, it's a good way of getting thinking done.

After fighting off waves of zombies, knocking a building down on Sabretooth, and blowing up Malnosso droid lookalikes, he's settling down a bit into a basketball game.

"A little bit" because every few successful baskets, he charges the ball and blows up the basket.

Gotta keep things interesting, after all.

And of all things to get him thinking, this is it...]

Y'know, I been here a year already an' it's 'bout time I asked about this.

We got people wit' all kindsa powers 'round here, right? Shootin' fireballs an' summonin' wind outta nowhere? There's gotta be someone in this place who can drop a slab of cement down for a basketball court, neh? Grass an' dirt roads don't work as good for that kinda t'ing.

Anybody who can magic up a good flat surface, lemme know. An' anyone up for a game once it's thrown down? Lemme know that, too. Game ain't as much fun solo.

[Pssh, of course she should be talking to him. Just look at the smile in that little window. How can she deny such a smile.]

Embarrass me? Chere, I'm sure you're good, but I wouldn't be goin' down wit'out puttin' up a good game first.

A year, huh? That's...a hard thing to imagine. [Seeing as he was a cycle away from that mark himself.]

How did you manage to not blow the village up out of boredom?

Mon ami, I spent the mornin' blowin' up plenty'a stuff. Jus' not the village yet.

[As much as he means for his words to be lighthearted, the bitterness he feels for being stuck here so long manages to sneak into his tone. A year. He hardly believed it himself when the thought dawned on him earlier in the week. And still no escape found.]

Guess it mus' be all these good influences 'round here.

Oh, those good influences...

[He was living with a bunch of them, and he could feel that old wanderlust creeping up on him.]

Can't live with them, but can't beat them. Joining them's not always that fun though.

...Any recs on good locations to blow stuff up?

I'll take your word for it, homme. Never tried it, myself.

[Funny, because Gambit seems to be finding himself more and more drawn toward the good influences. Not that he's much of one himself and he doubts he ever will be, but there's an appeal to it that he used to scoff at.

But he gives a wry grin.]

I got whole programs built around makin' t'ings go boom at the Battle Dome. Unless you're lookin' for smaller-scale explosions. Then we could make a trip up to the roof wit' another sofa or somethin'.

It kind of happened by accident? [It was a happy accident...] It's interesting, mostly, but sometimes I wonder if we'll ever get each other.

[Lupin grinned back at the suggestion.]

Either scale is good, my man. That fuzzball you have might be cool too, sometime. More affectionate than a pet rock, but just as sturdy and way more flammable~

[Guess what Gambit. GUESS WHAT.

That last basketball game you were playing? Logan saw it. Why did he see it? Because all the chambers were filled up. And he had to wait. He doesn't like waiting.

So when Gambit emerges, there's a typically grumpy Logan waiting outside.]

Finished yet? Or do you have more baskets to blow up?

Not sure I can help making one of those but I'll try and do what I can! But I'm always up for playing a game.

[Hmm.... nope.

But, you know, sometimes she's mean. So her tone is a touch sultry when she speaks.]

Promises, promises.

[And then she shuts the book. But hey, she's around. Rogue is nothing if not a creature of some routine - all the better to have it in order to break it. So it's entirely possible that they could be able to pick up this conversation at a later time in the Good Spirits, Library, or Battle Dome.]

Goodness, I don't have a power like that, but I've never played before...is it fun?

[Oh, Ororo knows a thing or two about basketball! That's the one with the ball... and the baskets... Ah. Hm.]

My nephew Evan used to play a little bit of basketball. I hadn't known you were fond of it yourself.

I probably know a guy who could just wish for a halfway decent basketball court.

The fuzzball don't blow up too good, but we can always chuck 'im off the roof anyway. Won't hurt 'im. Unfortunately.

[Oh, how he wishes it would hurt him.]

[Dude, why didn't you come by when he was dropping building on Sabretooth? You would've loved that. Gambit barely hesitates upon seeing Wolverine before he glances over his shoulder and back into the simulation chamber. And then back at Wolverine.

And then he decides to deliberately miss the man's point.]

Y'know, if you wanted in on the game, all you had to do was ask, homme.

Wouldn't worry 'bout the court too much, mon ami. Bound to be someone 'round here who can slap one down. More players is half the battle anyway. You played much before?

Plenty'a fun, chere. [This probably sounds infinitely more flirty than he's really intending, but he can roll with that anyhow.] Could always show you the ropes if you're int'rested.

[Evan is actually one that Gambit would probably not mind playing against. Colossus was always a fun opponent, too, for that matter. He grins.]

Don't get much chance to play here, but yeah. 'Sides, we could use a bit more friendly competition 'round these parts, non?

Wish for it? [There is something about the way he said that... Remy pauses for a beat before the lightbulb turns on.] Billy? Or is there more'n one guy 'round here who can wish stuff into bein'?

[She has to know that tone drives him crazy. She has to. There is no way she doesn't know.

But he'll let it slide. For now. And he's not even really going out of his way to run into her later on, but lo and behold, there she is at Good Spirits when he wanders in later that day. Definitely not going out of his way. That was just luck. Of course.

Luck that will inevitably lead to him drawling out a joking greeting as he slips past her.]

Not really, but I'm not against learning it.

[Rogue really shouldn't have spoken to him. The way he'd intervened on the mission had gone a long way to restoring some confidence in him, and she'd been willing to open up the lines of communication again by returning his birthday present gesture, but...

...but talking to him made him weigh on her brain. And she hadn't been able to shake their conversation all day.

And now, here he was. Oh well, defensive face on, eyebrows up.]
