2nd Card Dealt [Action/Voice - Backdated to Yesterday]

[Gambit has been a frequent visitor of the Battle Dome lately. Not that he wasn't shy about visiting it before, but ever since the moon fell, he's been working out the excess irritation through copious amounts of explosions. Early today, he goes through his usual training of increasing difficulty in the Battle Dome, working his way up from a warmup into an all-out survival match worthy of the Danger Room the X-Men had back home. Despite the chains of explosions, he still emerges from it all without a scratch.

After cooling down by just wandering idly around the Battle Dome for a while, it's back out into the snow. And Remy hates snow. For one, bad memories (babysitting Wolverine and Sabertooth both in a snowstorm is not a fun experience); but also, he's just not built for snow. Thank god for this nice warm coat.

After a brief trip into the grocery store, he's heading back to his apartment to make some gumbo. Nevermind all this winter weather noise, it's time for something hot and spicy to warm up with.

Community Building 1, hope you don't mind the delicious gumbo scent wafting around the ground floor.

Eventually, after checking to see if the snow has stopped - and seeing that it hasn't - he'll turn to the journals.]

Still snowin', huh.

Is it always this cold this early 'round here? Or is this jus' a sign we're in for a real rough winter?

[On your trip from the store (and after she gets rescued from the tree), Remy will find that he has a 'tail' of sorts. She'll pad after him best she can, although she'll have to struggle through any snowdrifts he walks through.

If he looks down at her, she'll give him an open, questioning look in return.

...Any shrimp for your gumbo in that bag?]

[It takes Gambit a moment to decide to glance back at the soft padding behind him. He's not too terribly concerned, and it's not too much of a surprise to see a cat following along.

Still, he does indeed have shrimp in this bag. And he can practically tell from that look what she's after. Foot, you are being given an amused look.]

Ain't it a bit cold for you out here?

Perk!

[Foot will settle on her haunches and meows, the sound starting as a trill and ending in a purr.

Yes, it's cold. But if he's willing to share his shrimp, it will be worth it.

She'll give him her best 'may I please' look, still purring softly.]

[Why is he getting this feeling he's going to end up caving in to this. His evil guy reputation is going to suffer for this, you realize.

Stalling on answering that plea for shrimp, he kneels down to inspect her collar. It's unfortunately not too much help in figuring out who to take this cat back to to try to avoid being The Guy Taking in Strays.]

Foot, huh.

[He gives her a long look, weighing options, before sighing and standing back up. If Nightcrawler sees this, he will never live it down. He can minimize these odds by heading back to the community building before giving shrimp.]

C'mon. Not gon' make you sit out here in de snow.

[Foot makes an agreeable murring sound and stands, ready to follow Remy. She'll even go so far as to nudge the man's calf before he starts walking.]

[It is a hell of a day to run out of coffee. Rogue is exceedingly unamused. She could have sworn there was half a bag left that morning -- and all her chickery was gone. It was like it was a conspiracy. A conspiracy to drive her out into the cold, wet, cold white stuff.

She is on her way to the coffee aisle when she catches a glimpse of Gambit out of the corner of her eye.

...so even Evil has to shop.

She'll just be marking his position and moving along, then.]

What, can't handle a little snow?

[Figures. The Cajun would probably fall apart at two inches of snow.]

[Well, there goes his bad guy reputation right there. Remy shakes his head, but keeps on his way to the community building. Which, thankfully, isn't too far.

And once they're inside (and he's sure they don't have an audience), he'll kneel back down and dig out a shrimp from the bag, setting it down for her.]

[Hey. Evil makes a mean gumbo, but even Evil needs ingredients.

Although there is a distinct lack of pre-made Cajun seasoning as far as he's noticed, so he's wandering around the store a little more than usual to make sure he has everything to make it all from scratch. And though he wasn't expecting to spot Rogue on his way past the coffee aisle, he's not particularly surprised, either. Weather like this isn't exactly Southerner-friendly.

And so, doubling back (on the pretense of picking up some cayenne pepper), he gives an offhanded greeting.]

Keepin' warm, chere?

[Hey. Just because some of us weren't born on snowy mountaintops...]

Pilin' up pretty quick to be callin' it jus' a little. But I'm thinkin' I'm about ready to ride it out.

[Wow, you know what, Germany isn't just snowy mountains and peasant villages, okay!]

Really? Because if you want to stay in doors for the next four months, it's totally fine.

[Kurt, don't tempt him into plotting some kind of snow trap to dump you in.]

Don't think I could sit still quite that long, homme. Tough luck.

[Trapping teleporters is a difficult line of work, Gambit. Sure you're up to it?]

Ah, that's too bad. I guess this winter won't be as good as last year's.

[You know he loves a good challenge.]

Can't all be winners, mon ami. Maybe try again next year.

[Foot's purrs get louder as it proves to be the shrimp Remy is digging for. She'll nudge him again and then rub against his boot before making her way to the shrimp. If it's still in the shell, she'll neatly eviscerate it and get her nose in between the shell to get to the tasty meat inside.]

[Bring it on, bro. Maybe it will make you feel better about getting stalkerhugged.]

Or maybe you'll get kidnapped for a few weeks.

[Rogue is scowling at the shelf. Why does the shift always move her favorite brand of coffee? It's great that it's here and all, but the extra challenge of staring at all the coffee beans every time she comes in here is not appreciated. As such, she had momentarily lost track of Gambit... all the same, as soon as he doubles back she sees him out of the corner of her eye and...

...well, okay, there was some something the last time they'd talked, but she (in her mind) had walked out the clear winner, so there was no reason to want to melt into her shiny new fur-lined boots. And heck, it is practically a Southerner's born duty to grouse about the first snow.]

No. How can anyone keep warm in this?

[We do not speak of that incident.]

An' here I thought you were one o' the good guys. Now you're talkin' about them Malnosso nabbin' me?

[One of Magneto's Acolytes. Standing here, feeding a cat shrimp. ~~What is his life.~~ He will take that purr as a 'thank you.'

Still, he'll go ahead and give her a second shrimp before settling back on his heels. That navigation around the shell is fairly impressive.]

I'd offer you some of the gumbo once it's done, but that prob'ly ain't too good for you.

[He holds up the cayenne pepper in answer to that question and grins.]

I'm thinkin' this oughta help a bit. Maybe. Way too cold too early.

[Not that he'd appreciate any snow, really, but early snow is exceptionally unappreciated. He figures she can appreciate the sentiment, though; neither one of them comes from this sort of climate.]

You might be onto somethin' with the coffee.

[Stockpile for potential snow-in: coffee and cigarettes. Who needs milk and eggs and bread?]

[She glances at the cayenne pepper and nods a little before shifting her gaze back to the shelf in front of her. She scowls again.]

If I can find it. [Folgers, you are far inferior. Why are there so many tins of you?]

[This is one detail he has not picked up on yet: coffee preference. So he really has no idea what she's looking for. But whatever it is, it is apparently not the mountain of ten thousand Folgers variations.

Which ultimately raises the question of just how fancy the coffee can get here.]

Anythin' in particular you're needin'?

Somethin' that isn't this st--ah-ha!

[And this requires some bending and dipping to the side, but when she comes up she is triumphant! It is a bag of 8 O'Clock beans marked 'bold' and 'dark' and she is smiling.]

Found it.

[...and she is going for seconds. Seriously, she should not be allowed to run out of coffee, ever. It does bad things to her brain, like making her think it's okay to smile around Himself here.]

[Foot will go after the second shrimp just as skillfully, although the last little bit of meat proves difficult to dislodge. She'll hold the fan of the tail down while she rasps the last of the shrimp from it's shell.

After that, she'll start to bath contentedly.]

No...probably not. Most of the spices humans use are bad for cats.

[Yes, the cat did just 'talk' to you, Remy.]
